Our newest hike on the City's Water Quality Protection Lands and one of our most rugged. This hike traverses 6 miles of the rugged Bear Creek watershed. We'll explore the family history of this long-time ranch and explore some of the most unique geology in Central Texas. Long pants and closed-toed hiking shoes required. Bring water and a trail snack.

All the meetings have been well attended and there have been engaging conversations at all of them.  In October, we will be meeting to discuss the book, "A Sand County Almanac" by Aldo Leopold.  I'm excited to read this again and it is well known to be one of the best works of naturalist writings and is on par with anything by John Muir, Henry David Thoreau or Ralph Waldo Emerson.  It was required reading for all Wildlife and Fisheries…

Meet at the pavilion and hike towards Tom's Thumb, taking a left on the Gateway Loop Trail. We turn around at the turnoff for the loop (at the Gateway Loop/Windgate Pass Trail Split), and are back to the parking lot an hour after start time. Indian Summer is in full swing with temperatures forecasted in the mid-70's for the week!  Sounds like a great excuse to get out onto the trail and hike to Mother Natures Granite Sofa's near Woods Quarry.
